New York. Mark Zuckerberg has admitted that Facebook algorithmically censored news of Hunter Biden’s daughter Hunter Biden’s laptop for a week. Zuckerberg acknowledged this on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast. Mark said he did this because of a general request from the FBI to stop election misinformation. During the podcast, Joe asked Zuckerberg ‘how does Facebook handle controversial issues… like the Hunter Biden news and was it censored?’
According to a report by news agency ANI, in response to this, Mark Zuckerberg said that he took a different route from Twitter for this. The FBI came to him and told you to be careful. We thought there was too much Russian propaganda in the 2016 election. Mark slammed Twitter for blocking the news entirely, admitting that he censored the news on Facebook, reducing its reach.
He said that our protocol is different from Twitter. Twitter said you can’t share it at all. We didn’t do that. If we are notified of a potential misrepresentation, we will conduct a fact-check by a third party. Because we don’t want to decide what is right and what is wrong? It took five to seven days to fix it. Its reach on Facebook was reduced but people were allowed to share it.
Mark Zuckerberg said it skewed rankings and newsfeeds a bit, so fewer people would see it. This is a political issue. So depending on your political leanings you might think we didn’t censor it enough or we didn’t censor it too much. Again we weren’t judging this in black and white like Twitter. Significantly, when this controversy was going on, Republicans accused Facebook of suppressing his voice.
