YouTube Working on ML That Flips Landscape Video Ads Into Vertical Formats

YouTube has announced that it is experimenting with a new machine learning (ML) technology that will flip landscape video ads into vertical formats based on how a person is viewing the video on the platform. The company says its data shows that vertical video assets achieved higher click-through rates than landscape ones, and that marketers can adapt their advertising content and strategies to these evolving behaviors. Meanwhile, the company is also said to be working on non-skippable bumper ads on the platform.

one in blog post, Google explains that its experimental machine learning technology improves landscape video ads into square or vertical formats depending on how the user views the video on YouTube. It is said that the model can detect key elements in landscape advertising – such as faces, key objects, logos, text and motion – and break down a video into separate “scenes”. It further states that these views ensure that important elements are properly visible in a vertical ad.

This technique can be beneficial to businesses that may not have the resources dedicated to creating multiple ads for many different formats. Google is also releasing four new, customizable vertical video ad templates and a square template in the video creation tool in Google Ads, located in the asset library. These molds can be used to create vertical or square ads quickly.

“We’ve also added a new set of vertical video ad templates to our auto-generated video offering that creates vertical video based on inputs you provide for a campaign, such as text and images,” the company said.

In YouTube advertising development, the video streaming platform has suggested That it is working on a special type of advertising format called bumper advertising. These ads are said to be up to 6-seconds long. according to a report goodGoogle can show 10 bumper ads at a time which cannot be skipped. This could mean that 10 bumper ads could consume about 60 seconds of your time, which shouldn’t be a problem for those using the free version.

Currently, YouTube shows 2-3 short ads or one long ad which can be skipped after few seconds. If you don’t want to see ads, you can use YouTube Premium.
