Tokyo: India won a record fourth gold medal in the ongoing Paralympic Games in Japan. India’s world number one para badminton player Pramod Bhagat won the gold medal. Manoj Sarkar of India had to face defeat in the final of another badminton tournament. So he had to be content with the silver medal.

Participating in the Paralympics for the first time, Pramod defeated Daniel Bethel of Britain in a one-sided match. After winning the first game, Pramod lagged behind in the second game. Pramod went down 4-11 to win the second game 21-17. This is the second gold medal won by India today (Saturday).

The 33-year-old Pramod defeated Daisuke Fujihara of Japan 21-11, 21-16 in the SL3 class event to reach the final. Pramod’s leg was crippled at the age of five due to polio. Pramod has won 45 international medals including 4 gold in world championships. He has won two gold and one silver at the BWF World Championships in 8 years. He won a silver and a bronze at the 2018 Para Asian Games.

India won medals so far in Paralympics

India’s medal tally at Tokyo Paralympics now stands at 17. India is ranked 24th in the medal tally.
