iPhone 14 Series Features Upgraded HDR Gyroscope, 256G Accelerometer for Crash Detection

The iPhone 14 series, which was launched at Apple’s ‘Far Out’ event on Wednesday, emphasizes several life-saving features, including the much-touted emergency satellite services. Another such feature that seems to be under the radar is its new crash detection system. In addition, all iPhone 14 series models are listed to feature advanced components such as high dynamic range (HDR) gyroscopes and a new high g‑force accelerometer. Apple claims to have used public crash data and real-world driving data to make this new feature as accurate as possible.

There are iPhone 14 series including the standard iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max listed To come with a new high G-force accelerometer which is said to be capable of measuring acceleration and deceleration up to 256G.

The equipped HDR gyroscope can detect “massive changes in the orientation of the car”. Furthermore, the barometer in the iPhone 14 series handset is programmed to detect changes in pressure that may be caused by the deployment of airbags.

Apple claims that, while you’re driving, the new iPhone 14 series microphone monitors sound levels to detect extreme sounds that usually result from collisions. The Cupertino company has assured users that all sound detection processing is done on the iPhone to protect the privacy of the users.

To ensure that the crash detection feature works accurately, Apple developed “advanced motion algorithms by performing head-on, rear-end, side-impact, and rollover crash tests.” It has also used public accident data from accidents. In total, the feature leverages over 1 million hours of real-world driving data.

All these new algorithms and handset components help the iPhone 14 series handsets in detecting serious car accidents. It then automatically contacts emergency services and your emergency contacts.
