How South Korea Became a Global Arms Dealer

Poland will offer a record to South Korea. With the recent arms order from Warsaw, estimated at nearly 14 billion dollars, the South Korean defense industry will record in 2022 the best year in its young international history. The Asian country which exported, in 2012, less than three billion dollars of military systems is on the way to register, on 2022, for nearly 20 billion dollars of contracts abroad.

Before selling Poland 48 FA-50 fighter jets from the Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) group, hundreds of K2 battle tanks produced by Hyundai Rotem and K9 self-propelled howitzers from Hanwha Defense, Seoul had earlier validated during the year, the delivery, for 3.6 billion dollars, of its Cheongung air defense system to the United Arab Emirates, but also the sale of K9 howitzers to Egypt, in an agreement announced at 1.7 billion of dollars.
