According to Amnesty International, Facebook’s Algorithm Increases Violence
Three legal cases have been filed against Facebook by Rohingya representatives

Washington, Amnesty International said in a report on Thursday that Meta Company should pay heavy compensation for hate speech against Rohingya Muslims spread on social media platform Facebook. According to an AFP report, people on social media platform Facebook are often seen spewing venom against Rohingyas expelled from their country Myanmar. Despite this, the organization says that Facebook is not taking any steps to stop them.

Also, the organization’s report claims that the violence against them was fueled by Facebook’s algorithm. This includes the widespread sharing of inflammatory videos and posts against the Rohingya on Facebook. Amnesty further said in its report that several Rohingyas tried to report anti-Rohingya content through Facebook’s ‘Report’ feature, but to no avail. The video then spread to Myanmar, sparking violence against them.

The report referred to the revelations of whistle-blower ‘Facebook Papers’ in October 2021, which showed that company executives were aware that the social media site had promoted the spread of toxic content against minorities and other groups. Three legal cases have been filed against Facebook by Rohingya representatives in the US and UK.

12,27,000 crore or Rs.
In a complaint filed against Facebook in California in December last year, Rohingya refugees are seeking $150 billion (about Rs 12,27,000 crore) in damages. However, Facebook has said that it has hired several companies to identify and remove false posts on its platform.
