In the heart of a natural sanctuary popular with surfers, the latest address of the Aethos group benefits from a view and a rare connection with the Atlantic Ocean.

The concept : 45 minutes north of Lisbon, “Aethos Ericeira” has settled in an old farmhouse, abandoned for ten years. The raison d’être of the Aethos group, which already has hotels in Umbria and Corsica: to transform existing places, off the beaten track, to bring them back to life. And imagine interiors echoing local traditions. In Ericeira, place to a daily life turned towards the ocean: located in the first World Surf Reserve in Europe, “Aethos Ericeira” gives access to a series of beaches and exceptional waves over 4 km. Every day, outings on small fishing boats and surfing lessons are organized: registering for them is part of the life of the hotel. Yoga classes, tea ceremony, resident DJs and master class in mixology are naturally on the program.

The decor: decorated by the Barcelona agency Astet Studio, the 50 rooms and suites of the hotel play the card of natural materials, give the feeling of a summer pied-à-terre with their large bay windows, balconies opening onto the ocean and shades of blue and sand colors. Open onto a huge promontory delimited by a wooden pontoon, the lounge areas are an invitation to live to the rhythm of the spray: alternately bathed in natural light or enveloped in layers of fog (recurring in the region), the library area, the café-bar and the shop make up an ideal living space, which can be adapted to leisure.

Taste : Led by the talented Portuguese chef Afonso Blazquez, the “Onda” restaurant is a destination in itself. “Since my early childhood, I have been connected to the ocean. It inspires my daily cooking”, says the chef, who worked in the starred kitchens of Massimo Bottura in Italy, among others. Every evening, he revisits Portuguese classics in a gastronomic spirit without ever losing sight of taste or conviviality. Seaweed butter, cuttlefish tagliatelle served in a dashi broth, small smoked eel burger or Ria Formosa oysters enhanced with a hint of chilli and coriander. We travel with the tides.
