The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) announced the ban on the organization through a notification issued late Tuesday, declaring “PFI and its affiliates or affiliates or fronts as an unlawful association with immediate effect”.
The ban has also been imposed on PFI as well as its fronts including Rehab India Foundation (RIF). Campus Front of India (CFI), All India Imam Council (AIIC), National Confederation of Human Rights Organization (NCHRO), National Women Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation and Rehab Foundation, Kerala as “unlawful associations”.
The notification clearly mentions that sanctions have been imposed against PFI and its affiliates or affiliates or fronts “for indulging in unlawful activities which are prejudicial to the integrity, sovereignty and security of the country and public peace and communal have the potential to disturb harmony. Supporting the country and extremism in the country.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967 (37 of 1967), the Central Government hereby declares the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its affiliates to be Allies or fronts including India Foundation (RIF), Campus Front of India (CFI), All India Imam Council (AIIC), National Confederation of Human Rights Organization (NCHRO), National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation and Rehab Foundation, Kerala as an ‘Unlawful Association’,” reads the notification.
“The Central Government hereby directs that this notification shall, subject to any order made under section 4 of the UAPA, be effective for a period of five years from the date of its publication in the office.”
The Center issued the ban citing the investigation of its agencies, “the investigation has established clear links between the PFI and its affiliates or allies or fronts”.
It is also alleged that “some of the founding members of the PFI are leaders of the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and that the PFI has links with Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), both of which are banned organisations”.
“There are many examples of PFI’s international ties with global terrorist groups Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
