At first glance, Watson is a dog like any other. A brave Chihuahua who loves nothing better than a good game of play or a chicken-flavored treat. Unfortunately for him, it was in those moments of excitement that suddenly it can collapse.

Because Watson is a narcoleptic dog. “We adopted him in 2014, it was a veterinarian who contacted us,” recalls Emmanuel Mignot. Before him, the French researcher already had another narcoleptic dog as a companion, a schipperke named Bear. It was by studying them for years – as well as other canine subjects held by Stanford University – that Emmanuel Mignot finally found the cause of narcolepsy. A discovery that has earned him today to be awarded a major American prize, the Breakthrough Prize, alongside Japanese Masashi Yanagisawa, who came to similar conclusions at the same time.
