New Delhi : On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, ‘Swachh Survekshan Puraskar 2022’ has been announced today. Indore has emerged as the cleanest city in India for the sixth time in a row in the Central Government’s annual cleanliness survey. While Surat and Navi Mumbai have secured the second and third positions respectively. Among the cities situated on the banks of the Ganges, Bijnor ranks first among the cities with a population of less than one lakh. Nashik’s Devlali has secured first place in the container.
In terms of states, Madhya Pradesh has secured the first position while Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra are ranked second and third respectively. Indore and Surat have retained their top positions in the big cities category this year, while third-ranked Vijayawada has slipped.
President Draupadi Murmu presented the awards to the winners at a function in New Delhi on Saturday. Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

Devlali of Maharashtra has got the honor of being the cleanest Cantonment Board in the country. Tripura tops the list of states with less than 100 urban local bodies. Pachgani in Maharashtra ranks first in the category of cities with population less than one lakh, followed by Patan in Chhattisgarh and Karad in Maharashtra.
Among the cities situated on the banks of the Ganges, Bijnor ranks first among the cities with a population of less than one lakh. It is followed by Kannauj and Garhmukheshwar respectively. Haridwar was declared the cleanest Ganga city in the category of population above one lakh, followed by Varanasi and Rishikesh.
The 7th edition of Swachh Survekshan was conducted to study the progress of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) and to rank the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) on the basis of various sanitation and hygiene parameters.
