Kyiv, Shocking pictures of a Ukrainian soldier released from Russian custody have surfaced on social media. Ukraine’s Defense Ministry shared photos of its soldier, Mykhailo Dyanov, on Twitter, describing him as one of the lucky ones. Mykhailo Dionov had bruises on his face and hands. Sharing Dynov’s photos, the Defense Ministry wrote, “Ukrainian soldier Mykhailo Dynov is among the lucky few who, unlike some of his fellow Prisoners of War (POWs), escaped Russian captivity. Thus Russia complies with the Geneva Convention.”

According to the English newspaper Telegraph, Dionov was detained earlier this year while fighting for the protection of the Azovstal steel works in Mariupol. He was one of 205 Ukrainian prisoners of war released by Russia on Wednesday.

In the latest pictures of Dianov, he looks very weak with bruises on his hands and face. His sister, Alona Lavryshko, reportedly indicated that Dyanov is currently in the Kyiv Military Hospital, where his condition remains critical and will require long-term treatment.

His sister Lavrushko said the shrapnel was removed from her brother’s arm using a pair of pliers without anaesthetic. He said a 4-centimeter bone was missing from Dyanov’s hand due to the inhumane conditions he faced in Russian prisons. The doctors of the army hospital have advised the jawan to gain some weight before the operation. At the moment, the operation can be dangerous for Dynov’s health, so he has to take a good diet to gain strength for the operation.
