Russia’s Zaporizhia Nuclear Plant Bombed, Ukraine Claims – Many Radiation Sensors Destroyed

Ukraine claims Russia attacked cities near largest nuclear plant

Kyiv Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of Thursday’s attack near the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant ahead of a UN Security Council meeting to address security concerns. There have been massive attacks near the plant. Part of the plant has been destroyed. Both have blamed each other for these attacks. Both said five rocket attacks took place near a radioactive material storage area at the plant. Zaporizhia, Europe’s largest nuclear plant, has been at the center of renewed fighting between the two countries in recent days.

According to the Hindustan Times report, Ukraine’s nuclear agency Energoatum said that recently there was firing from Russia near 6 reactors of the plant. Due to this, heavy smoke spread throughout the plant and some radiation sensors were also damaged. Currently, the Ukrainian plant is under the control of Russian troops and Ukraine is working hard to get it back. Ukraine has alleged that Moscow is working to stock hundreds of its troops and weapons at the plant.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that if Russian attacks on the plant continue, it could turn into a nuclear disaster bigger than Chernobyl. At the same time, UN chief Antonio Guterres issued a statement saying that the ongoing attacks on the Zaporizhia plant could lead to disaster. He asked both sides to immediately stop military activities near the power plant.
