Lootere Teaser Trailer: Hansal Mehta

Lootere, the new Hotstar special, recently got its first-look trailer as part of Disney+ Day. Disney+ Hotstar unveiled the trailer of the upcoming Rajat Kapoor-led thriller series, which focuses on Somali pirates. Hansal Mehta sees the robber father-son duo (Aligarh) and Jai Mehta are reuniting to direct another web series – the two previously worked on SonyLIV’s Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story. Hotstar Web Series currently has no release window. Lootere is produced by Shailesh R. Singh is produced by Karma Media and Entertainment (Tanu Weds Manu).

Lootere’s teaser trailer is structured like a montage, with shots of a stationary cargo ship and a group of armed Somali pirates heading towards it. Kapoor is at the heart of the action, as he watches the bandits from afar through his trusty binoculars and prepares for the inevitable confrontation. There is also a story of romance and desperation in the background, as Vivek Gombar is seen pocketing cash and shouting on the shoulder of a woman (Amrita Khanwilkar). The new Mehta collab seems to be taking notes from the Tom Hanks lead Captain Phillipswhich saw prominent sailors taken hostage by pirates.

The rest of the robbery trailer turns into a melee, as the bandits finally break into the ship and begin attacking the crew members. The aforementioned Kapoor also wears a marine uniform, making him an instant target. That said, the action isn’t limited to the ocean, as we’re presented with deadly car chases, bombings, gunshots, and fire breakouts, all of which are somewhat interconnected. Not much information to go on. Father Hansal serves as the producer of Lootere, while son Jai directs.

Report indicated Lootere is actually based on a true story, where a commercial Indian ship was hijacked off the coast of Somalia. The main part of the story revolves around the drama surrounding the crew and how they navigate a terrifying situation when a gun is pointed at their heads.

The series was tentatively titled Pirates (working title) and written by Jay Mehta, Vishal Kapoor (Forensic), Supraan Verma (The Family Man) and Vaibhav Vishal (Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story). Lootere also stars Deepak Tijori, Chandan Roy Sanyal and Gaurav Paswala (Hotel Mumbai).

Currently, there is no release window for Looter, which will be available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
