Washington. The Pentagon has halted supplies of new F-35 jets after it was discovered that the magnets used in the fighter jet’s engines were made from unapproved materials imported from China. Then it was secretly installed in America’s most advanced fighter jet. Aircraft manufacturer Lockheed Martin discovered that some of the components used in the jet engine were made in China. The Defense Department and the company have confirmed this news.

According to a report by news agency ANI, the Pentagon has temporarily stopped the supply of F-35 jets due to non-compliance with the rules. The Defense Contract Management Agency told the F-35 Joint Program Office on 19 August that the alloy used in the magnets in the F-35’s turbomachinery pumps was produced in China. Russell Gomery, a spokesman for the office, said in a statement. The Program Office has temporarily suspended the supply of F-35 aircraft to ensure compliance of the F-35 program with defense regulations relating to special metals. Both the Pentagon and Lockheed have said that an alternative source of the alloy will be used in future turbomachinery.

US, UK and Israel ban F-35 fighter jets

The F-35 aircraft is manufactured by Lockheed, while the Honeywell company manufactures the turbomachines. In late August, Honeywell was told by one of its suppliers that they were using an alloy sourced from China for the turbomachine, which was then magnetized in the US. Whereas in a statement it was clarified that magnets made of Chinese alloy do not cause any harm. Sensitive defense program information cannot be obtained from this magnet. The F-35 Joint Program Office also said the equipment would not affect the flight of the F-35, a fifth-generation fighter jet already in service.
