India Set to Roll Out 6G Services by the End of This Decade: PM Narendra Modi

India 5G rollout is set to begin early next month. Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has already asked service providers to be ready for 5G launch after issuing spectrum allotment letters. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) issued spectrum assignment letters on the same day that the successful bidders of radio waves made advance payments. DoT has already confirmed that 13 Indian cities will get high-speed internet services in the first phase. Here’s an explainer of what happened and what you can expect in the coming days.

First 5G services will be started in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Pune. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was earlier notified of the service launching in India on 15 August, but the plan was apparently shelved as TSPs and their vendors needed time to be fully equipped.

On 15th August, Modi spoke on 5G and said that the service providing 10 times faster speed and lag-free connectivity will be launched in India soon. High-speed internet will help people to watch movies and download content quickly without buffering as 5G can provide speeds up to 100 times faster than 4G.

“Now we are moving towards the 5G era… don’t have to wait long,” he said. We are taking optical fiber to every village. I am fully aware that the dream of Digital India will pass through the villages. I am happy that 4 lakh Common Service Centers of India are being developed in villages. The country can claim that 4 lakh digital entrepreneurs are being created in the villages and the people of the villages have become used to taking services from them.

Earlier this month, telecom operator Bharti Airtel had claimed that it would roll out 5G services by March 2024 covering all towns and major rural areas in the country. “We intend to launch 5G from August and intend to roll out pan India very soon. .. By March 2024 we are confident that we will be able to cover every city and major rural areas with 5G. In fact, detailed network rollout plans are in full swing for 5,000 cities in India. This will be one of the biggest rollouts in our history,” Vittal said during the company’s earnings call.

Meanwhile, Vi has also started notifying its customers that it is now working on upgrading to 5G and that the customer experience will “be better now” and have better coverage in Delhi-NCR. Reliance Industries’ Jio emerged as the top spender in the 5G spectrum auction, raking in $11 billion (about Rs 87,800 crore) for offering a high-speed wireless network.
