India-US will work together to promote a 'free and open Indo-Pacific': White House

Washington. The White House has said that the US will work with India to promote a “free and open Indo-Pacific” and to provide opportunities, security, freedom and dignity to its people. White House Press Secretary Kieran Jean Pierre Speaking to reporters in a daily press briefing on Tuesday, India and the US are partners in several important areas including defence, criticism, climate and technology.

Asked how the US can help India in the next 25 years to make India a developed nation by 2047, Pierre said people-to-people contact between the two countries is increasing steadily. Responding to a question, Pierre said the US would work closely with India to provide opportunities, security, freedom and dignity to its people.

Amid China’s aggressive stance in the region, he said, “The US will continue to work with India to move towards a free and independent Indo-Pacific region and to meet the challenges facing both countries around the world.” This is an addition to our partnership with India.”

China is embroiled in territorial disputes in both the South China Sea and the East China Sea. China claims sovereignty over the entire South China Sea. However, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, Brunei and Taiwan have their own claims on it.
