Colombo: A farmer died after eating 1 inch fish bone while eating it. The bone in the stomach went into the farmer’s intestine. This caused an intestinal infection. This infection became fatal for the farmer. This incident happened in Sri Lanka. The case report is published in the International Journal of Surgery Case Reports.

The farmer who died due to a fish bone in his stomach is 60 years old. Farmer was admitted to the hospital for treatment due to abdominal pain, vomiting and constipation. Seeing his condition, he was admitted to the ICU. The farmer’s stomach was swollen. The doctor examined him. He started showing sepsis-like symptoms. In sepsis, the body’s immune system attacks the organs.

The doctor decided to operate on the farmer. The surgery lasted for two hours. The doctors noticed a small hole in the farmer’s intestine. Doctors told that this happened after swallowing 1 inch of fish bone. To save the patient’s life, the doctor cut the infected part of the patient’s intestine. But the farmer died of heart failure.

Research has revealed that swallowing fish bone causes stomach upset. AIIMS doctor Biplab Kumar Mishra said that such incidents have happened in the past also. People from coastal areas consume more fish. That’s why such incidents happen more there, Mishra said.
