Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp Could Soon Offer Paid Features

Meta may soon provide additional features for paid users. The social media giant is reportedly setting up a new product organization to work on “potential payment features” for Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. The unit is said to be headed by Pratiti Ray Chowdhury, former head of research at META. Other competitors in the space, including Snap, and Twitter, already offer Snapchat+ and Twitter Blue paid services, with a number of exclusive features for creators.

according to a report good By The Verge, Meta is creating a new division called “New Monetization Experiences” to focus on paid features for Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.

The report cited an internal memo that Prati Roy Chowdhury, former head of research at META, will lead the group.

The nature of the paid features is unknown at this time. The company is committed to growing the advertising business and has no plans to pay users to turn off ads, the report quoted Meta’s head of ads and business products, John Hegman, as saying in an interview.

Snap, Twitter and Meta Platforms earn the majority of their revenue from selling digital ads. Paid features may add new non-advertising revenue for Meta. Snap and Twitter currently offer paid tiers for users to unlock additional features.

Twitter’s subscription product, Twitter Blue, costs $4.99 (approximately Rs.400) per month. Recently, the Snapchat+ subscription service was launched in India, priced at Rs. 49 per month.
