Dussehra 2022: Vijayadashami (Vijayadashmi) That is, Ashwin Shuddh Dashami is considered an important day in Indian culture. On this day “Dussehra” (Dussehra 2022) It is also said that Navratri festival begins after the establishment of Goddess Ashwin Shukla Pratipada. And on the tenth day Vijayadashami i.e. Dussehra is celebrated. Dussehra is one of the three and a half Muhurtas.
Considered as one of the three and a half Muhurtas, Vijayadashami marks the beginning of a new task. Purchase of new vehicles, accessories and clothes, purchase of gold. On this Dussehra special worship is done to Saraswati, the goddess of learning. Aparajita Devi is worshiped on this day. The custom of crossing the village boundary on the day of Dussehra is prevalent. On Dussehra, they give each other apatya leaves in the form of ‘gold’.
Kisan Dussehra:
The custom of bringing home the first crop of agriculture on Dussehra and celebrating it continues in every village even today. Some of this new grain is tied in a pylon made of lambia, marigold flowers and mango leaves. It is considered a symbol of happiness and prosperity. On this day, the four rituals of Simolanghan, Shami Puja, Aparajita Devi Puja and Weapon Puja were performed by the kings, princes and chieftains.
What is a legend? (History of Dussehra):
Legend has it that Lord Rama killed Ravana on Vijayadashami. There is also a legend that on this day the Pandavas returned from exile. Before going into exile, the Pandavas hid their weapons in a drum on the Shami tree. One of them is the story of how Arjuna, in the form of Brihannade, used a Gandiva bow and some arrows to save Virata’s cows, and put them back on the tree after the performance. Therefore, Vijayadashami is celebrated by worshiping Shami.
The tree whose leaves are plucked on Vijayadashami is called Ashmantak. These leaves are effective against pitta and kapha doshas.
