According to the Aviation Herald, the Boeing 737 was in autopilot mode and was flying on a route determined by the flight management computer. The plane was supposed to land on the first runway of Addis Ababa airport, which did not land there. The Air Traffic Controller then called the pilot but he did not respond. When the plane disconnected from the autopilot, a loud bell rang, after which the pilots were woken up.
After sleep, the pilots re-routed the aircraft and made a safe landing on the runway. Aviation analyst Alex Maceras reported the incident in a tweet. He attributed the incident to pilot fatigue. However, he called it a serious matter and called it an important issue for international air security.
