Britain: Rishi Sunak reached the temple with his wife Akshata on Janmashtami, buzzed on social media

New Delhi: Britain’s PM candidate Rishi Sunak worshiped Lord Krishna on the occasion of Janmashtami. Rishi Sunak along with his wife Akshata Murthy arrived at the International Society for Krishna Consciousness Temple in London to have darshan of Lord Krishna. He also shared a photo on Twitter while worshiping at the temple. This season for his reaching the temple has also started.

While sharing the photo, Sunak wrote that today I went to Bhakti Vedanta Manor temple to celebrate Janmashtami with my wife Akshata. It is a popular festival of Hindus. We celebrate it with great pomp and Hindu devotees across the world celebrate this festival on the occasion of the birthday of Lord Krishna.

A different war has broken out in the political world after reaching the temple in the midst of the election atmosphere. After his move, social media has been divided into two factions. One side is seeing his move as a Hindu festival, while one group is linking Sunak’s visit to the temple with politics.

Praising Rishi Sunak, former Foreign Secretary of India, Kanwal Sibal tweeted that even in Britain, Sunak is still associated with his culture and religion. He said that I credit him not as a leader, but as a person, for visiting his temple. Simultaneously, Sibal said that it is ironic that it will be seen as non-secular in India.

A user named Manoj wrote that Rishi Sunak is a Hindu. Today is the birthday of Lord Krishna and on this day everyone goes to the temple to worship him and Sanak did the same. Manoj argued that majority of the population in Britain is non-Hindu and if they want to take political advantage of it, it will not work as it will not get them votes. What will be the benefit of minority Hindus taking votes? He is a Hindu and has come only to see God.

At the same time, another user Radhika Chandran tweeted that we are very happy to know that now you believe and follow Hindu values.

Rishi Sunak is a British leader of Indian origin. He is in the running to become the next Prime Minister of Britain and if he becomes Prime Minister he will be the first Indian-origin Prime Minister of Britain. Prior to this, Sunak was the finance minister in Boris Johnson’s government. However, in most of the surveys so far, Foreign Minister Liz Truss, standing against him, is leading.
