What are the new vehicle tire rules?

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has approved changes in the design of vehicle tires for vehicle safety. The central government has directed automakers to fit these newly designed tires in vehicles sold from April 1, 2023. Under these new norms, the government has made AIS-142:2019 Stage 2 norms mandatory for C1, C2 and C3 category tyres. Under the new AIS-142:2019 Stage 2 regulation, this also includes regulation on road tire friction, loose grip of road tyres, and tire noise while driving. The government will soon start the work of checking the quality of tires by giving them a star rating.

Bicycle Battery Safety Standards

There have been several incidents of fire in electric vehicles in the last few months. This includes electric scooters from companies like Ola and Okinawa. It is being told that the main reason behind the fire in the scooter is the battery itself. In this, the Ministry of Transport is preparing to bring guidelines to reduce battery-related accidents in electric two-wheelers. These rules were earlier to come into effect from 1 October 2022. But at present, the Central Government has extended this deadline till December 1, 2022, giving some relaxation. These rules will be implemented in two phases. The first phase of which will be implemented from 1 December 2022 and the second phase from 1 March 2023. Under this new rule, updated AIS 156 and AIS 038 Rev.2 standards have been made mandatory for electric vehicles. Because the draft notification for this has already been issued.
