India is reportedly planning to simultaneously test various components of electronic components to expedite their security clearances. The new strategy is expected to propel launch plans by smartphone giants such as Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi. Currently, testing and certification of products such as wireless earbuds and smartphones requires 16 to 21 weeks. The new method can take five to eight weeks away from this. The earbuds may be put through rapid testing first and the government may decide on other products later.

According to the report, the pilot decision was taken on Wednesday after a closed-door meeting between officials of the Ministry of Electronics and Information and Technology (MeitY), Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Manufacturers Association for Information Technology (MAIT) and others. “For industry, this is directly linked to ease of doing business; for consumers, this will lead to faster access to the latest products,” Reuters quoted MAIT as saying in a statement. Xiaomi, Samsung and Apple, which sell the largest number of smartphones in India, are expected to benefit from the move.
