Washington. The US Justice Department on Wednesday announced criminal charges against a member of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) for plotting to kill former National Security Advisor (NSA) John Bolton. Bolton held senior positions during the Trump and Bush administrations.

According to a CNN report, the Justice Department said the alleged plot was a “revenge” for the January 2020 US airstrike that killed Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Qasem Soleimani. Prosecutors said 45-year-old Iranian national and IRGC member Shahram Porsafi tried to pay a man US$300,000 to kill Bolton and said he also had a second job worth $1 million. According to sources familiar with the matter and close to Pompeo, there was also a conspiracy to assassinate former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
