1869: Birth of Mahatma Gandhi
Mahatma Gandhi was born on this day i.e. on October 2, 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. , Gandhi’s life took a different turn when he went to Africa to practice law. Gandhi launched a struggle against apartheid on June 7, 1893, after a white officer threw Gandhi from a first-class vehicle while traveling from Durban to Pretoria. In India also, he started fighting against the British through Satyagraha and non-violence. The biggest movements organized by him were the Non-Cooperation Movement of 1919, the Civil Disobedience Movement of 1930 and the Java Movement of 1942. His movement was successful and India got independence by civil means.
1904 – Birth of Lal Bahadur Shastri
Lal Bahadur Shastri was born on 2 October 1904, seven miles from Varanasi. Uttar Pradesh This happened in a small village in Mughalsarai. In 1930 Mahatma Gandhi visited Dandi and broke the salt law. This symbolic message revolutionized the entire country. Lal Bahadur Shastri opened fire and threw himself into the freedom struggle. He led several rebel campaigns and spent a total of seven years in British prison.
After the country’s independence in 1951, he served as the Minister of Railways, Transport and Communications in the Union Cabinet. , commerce and industry minister, home minister and non-commissioned minister during Nehru’s illness. So worked. He resigned from the post of Railway Minister, holding himself responsible for the loss of many lives in a train accident. After Nehru’s death in 1964, he became the Prime Minister of India. Lal Bahadur Shastri was famous for his simple lifestyle. During the 1965 war, he raised the slogan ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’. Under his leadership, India defeated Pakistan in this war. Through this, there was an all-round development of the rural life of India and a change in the lifestyle of the people of that place. This program was considered very important from the point of view of rural development. After the independence of the country, many heavy industries started in India. A factory for making railway coaches was started at Perambur. It is considered to be the beginning of India’s industrial development.
1986- Amendment of the Dowry Act
The Dowry Act was first introduced in India in 1961. It was amended on 2 October 1986. The payment of dowry or taking of dowry is prohibited under this Act. Taking dowry before or after marriage was prohibited by law.
2001 – NATO sanctioned attack on Afghanistan

In his life, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Swachh Bharat scheme in the country on 2 October 2014 on the occasion of Gandhiji’s birth anniversary. The name of this scheme was named Mahatma Gandhi Swachh Bharat Mission. The objective behind this was to clean all the cities and towns of India by 2022. As a part of this, considerable awareness was created to make toilet facilities in every household.
