Washington. In view of Taiwan’s increasing tension with China, the US has announced to give Taiwan $ 1.1 billion worth of modern weapons to strengthen its defense system. The new arms deal with Taiwan follows the visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan. There are fears that China’s military exercises could be trial runs for future attacks.

According to a report by Reuters news agency, the weapons sold to Taiwan include a $665 million deal for an early warning radar system capable of tracking fighter jets and missiles, and a $355 million deal for 60 advanced Harpoon missiles . By which the incoming fighter jets and missiles can be detected in advance. Whereas Harpoon missile is capable of destroying any target. The Pentagon said the US State Department has approved the sale of $1.1 billion in military equipment to Taiwan, including 60 anti-ship missiles and 100 air-to-air missiles.
