Transmission of monkeypox to persons vaccinated with smallpox in the United States.
A major question arose about the effectiveness of the smallpox vaccine against monkeypox.
In a 1988 study, the smallpox vaccine was reported to be 85% effective against monkeypox.

Washington. A case of monkeypox has been reported in the US in a patient who was diagnosed with ACAM2000 smallpox 8 years ago. Despite this vaccination, the man got monkeypox. America’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Center for Disease Control and Prevention-CDC) has given this information. The CDC said a patient in Washington was diagnosed with smallpox 8 years ago. Despite being successfully immunized against smallpox, it caused monkeypox. This raises a major question about the effectiveness of the ACAM2000 vaccine amid the ongoing shortage of the monkeypox vaccine.

According to a report in the Insider paper, the patient was a previously healthy 34-year-old man who had sex with men. When this man developed skin lesions accompanied by persistent fatigue and headaches, he came to a sexually transmitted infection clinic. This person had gonorrhea infection and syphilis in 2017 which got cured after treatment. His military health records did not reveal HIV infection or any other illness.

Monkeypox outbreak: Monkeypox spread from humans to pets! Avoid These Precautions

Monkeypox has been a major public health concern since the eradication of smallpox in 1980. It was previously found that the smallpox vaccine could protect against monkeypox. In the case of monkeypox, transmission among individuals who have been vaccinated against smallpox is very low. A study in 1988 reported that smallpox vaccination provided up to 85% protection against monkeypox. A 2008 study reported that the ACAM2000 smallpox vaccine completely protected monkeys despite a lethal dose of monkeypox virus.
