US: North Carolina high school knife attack, 1 student killed, 2 injured, 3 arrested

Carolina. There are constant reports of violence coming from American schools. A stabbing incident took place on Thursday at a North Carolina high school. 1 student died in the attack. 2 students are injured. 3 students have been charged with assault and taken into custody. Jacksonville Police Chief Mike Yaniro said two injured minors were taken to Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune and one later died, according to the AP. He said the attack in the high school looked like a stabbing, but the investigation was ongoing. He further said that a teacher was also injured, but he was not attacked with a knife, he was given treatment on the spot.

He said that as soon as the information about the incident was received, the police reached the spot. The incident happened around 7 am and the police took a student into custody at that time. By the end of the day three students had been arrested. The police chief said the attack took place in a common area inside the school and was witnessed by several students. He declined to name the accused. A 16-year-old boy has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon in a school, assault with a deadly weapon and assaulting a school teacher, police said late Thursday. Two other boys, aged 15 and 16, have been charged with assault on school property and disorderly conduct.

Following the incident, the police imposed a lockdown in the school, which continued till 8:45 am, after which the school started the process of handing over the students to their parents. By the time the police held a press conference, almost all the students had returned home. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper said he has offered assistance from the State Bureau of Investigation. Cooper said in a tweet that our prayers are with all the students, teachers, families and community.
