US ambassador to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa warmly welcomed, government said - India's ambassador will also be welcome

Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, facing criticism for giving a lavish welcome to the US ambassador, clarified on Monday that the US diplomat was given a warm welcome as he was in the province on an official visit. The state government said it had nothing to do with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, which blamed President Joe Biden’s administration for toppling the Imran Khan government.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) government was criticized by opposition parties and social media users after provincial chief minister Mahmood Khan welcomed US Ambassador Donald Blom last week.

The government said that the welcome has no political connection
KPK government spokesman Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif said the US ambassador was on an official visit, which has nothing to do with the politics of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party.

He admitted that his party blamed the administration of US President Joe Biden for the plot to topple the PTI government in April this year. But he said the US ambassador did not visit any party office.

India’s ambassador will also be welcome
He said that if the Indian Ambassador to Pakistan visits the province, he will also be welcomed under that protocol. KPK Chief Minister Khan welcomed the US ambassador on his maiden visit to the provincial capital last week and thanked the US government for offering to help run various welfare projects in the province.

The US ambassador handed over 36 vehicles equipped with the latest medical equipment to KPK Health Minister Tamiur Salim Zagra. On his visit to KPK, he also visited the Pakistan-Afghan Torkham border.
