The Peripheral Teaser Trailer: Chloë Grace Moretz Bounces Between Alternate Futures in New Prime Video Series

The Peripheral teaser trailer is here — in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. Amazon Prime Video has released the first trailer for the Chloë Grace Moretz-led sci-fi drama series, which is set in a dystopian future. The show is based on William Gibson’s 2014 novel of the same name and sees Westworld creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan reuniting as executive producers under the Kilter Films banner. Peripheral will be available for streaming on October 21, in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam exclusively on Prime Video.

Set in a near-future fictional town in rural America, The Peripheral trailer begins with the introduction of Flynn Fisher, a teenager who works at a local 3D printing shop. Played by Moretz (Kick-Ass, Suspiria), her wild imagination and personality are said to be wasted in a backward town aka the “cave of impotence”. Deep in the woods we are greeted by her brother Burton – played by Jack Raynor (Midsomer) – who, after suffering a traumatic brain injury, lives as a recluse in a mold-covered caravan. Upon meeting him, Flynn dons cybernetic headgear, which works strangely like a VR headset, although events in the virtual environment begin to merge with reality.

While the peripheral teaser is vague on plot details, it seems to draw heavily from the likes of The Matrix and Everything Everywhere All at Once. It seems that users can be transported to the world of their choice, to mess around and live an exciting life, which is a break from the mundanity of the rural town. It is soon revealed that the events seen through the headgear are actually visions from the future. According to the novel, The Peripheral deals with two futuristic scenarios – one takes place in a bleak world where only industries are thriving. Another future is set in a desolate London after a series of cataclysmic events kill most of the world’s population.

“You’re inside what we call the peripheral,” the voiceover says. “You think it’s a game. But that is reality. It’s not over yet.” The peripheral trailer then builds to a montage of action sequences involving an invisible car, a faceless killer, and real-world artifacts distorted by changes in the peripheral realm. Gibson’s novel takes place in the experiences of Flynn and early 22nd-century preacher Wilf Netherton (Gary Carr). That varies. But as of now, there’s no telling if the Prime Video show will follow suit in terms of narrative.

Peripheral also stars Ellie Gorrie (One Night in Miami), Louie Hartham (Westworld), T’Nia Miller (The Haunting of Bly Manor), Charlotte Riley (Peaky Blinders), Alexandra Billings and Adalind Horan.

Peripheral will be out on October 21st for streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. In India, the show will be available in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam languages.
