New Delhi: India created history by winning 19 medals at the Paralympic Games held in Tokyo. Indian athletes won 5 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze medals. This is India’s best ever performance in Paralympics. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the Indian players who returned home after the tournament.

PM Modi also met Paralympic Silver Medalist DM Suhas LY from Noida. Talking to Modi, he said, I was not admitted to the school 3 times. Now after winning the medal, I got a chance to sit next to the Prime Minister.

Indian Para Athletics performed brilliantly in Tokyo. All possible help will be given to them to perform well in future also. Modi said that 130 people of the country are with you.

Modi met and encouraged the athletes who did not win a medal in the Paralympics. There is pain of not winning the medal: but this defeat has made us stronger. Will try again next time. Talking to Modi, a player said that he will try till he gets the medal.

Before the Tokyo Paralympics, India had won 12 medals in 11 Paralympics in 53 years. Paralympic competitions have been held since 1960. India has participated since 1968. India did not participate in the tournament in 1976 and 1980.
