Tokyo: Indian athletes are performing strongly in the Tokyo Paralympics. Indian para athlete Sharad Kumar won a bronze medal in the T42 high jump, but was disappointed before the final. He was considering withdrawing from the final of the Tokyo Paralympics T-42 high jump. He took this decision due to injury during practice. The Bhagavad Gita supported him in this difficult time and he created history.

The night before the final match, Sharad talked to his family. Born in Patna, 29-year-old Sharad sustained a knee injury on Monday (August 30). So will we be able to play in the final, will we get a medal? Such thoughts were haunting him.

Sharad said, ‘I am happy to have won the bronze medal. Because I got hurt during practice on Monday. I cried all night thinking of withdrawing my name. I talked to my family last night. My father told me to read the Bhagavad Gita and focus on what I can do. He also advised not to pay attention to what is not in our hands.

Forgetting the hurt, I took every leap like a battle. and won the medal. He also said that the bronze medal I have got is a gold medal.

Sharad studied at Modern School and Kirori Mal College in Delhi and holds a master’s degree in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Sharad, two-time Asian Para Games champion and World Championship silver medalist, said, “Jumping in the rain was very difficult. I could balance on one leg as I had spikes in one leg. So I asked the authorities to postpone the event. But the American athlete had spikes on both feet, was wearing out, so he decided to end the competition.
