Samarkand. The 22nd Regional Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is being held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. But in addition to the SCO summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Uzbekistan on Thursday. During the meeting, Putin thanked Xi Jinping for China’s balanced approach to the Ukraine crisis and criticized US policies.

According to a report by the news agency AP, at the beginning of talks with the Chinese President in Uzbekistan, Putin said that he is ready to discuss China’s concerns about Ukraine. Putin also mentioned China’s concerns. Beijing is concerned about the impact of volatile oil prices and the economic uncertainty caused by the war in Ukraine.

It is learned that the two met outside the eight-nation Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which includes India, Pakistan and four former Soviet countries in Central Asia. Ukraine was not specifically mentioned in a statement issued by the Chinese government after the meeting. But Xi Jinping is said to have promised strong support for Russia’s “core interests”.

However, no specific information has been given in the statement. Beijing uses ‘core interests’ to describe issues such as claims of the ruling Communist Party over national sovereignty and Taiwan, on which it is prepared to go to war.

During the meeting, Putin said that we greatly appreciate the balanced approach of our Chinese friends to the Ukraine crisis. He further said that we understand your questions and your concerns in this regard, and we will certainly clarify our position on this issue during today’s meeting.
