Moscow. Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that Moscow will continue its military operations in Ukraine until it achieves its objectives. He also mocked Western attempts to isolate Russia through sanctions. Putin told the annual meeting of the Economic Forum in the Far Eastern port city of Vladivostok that the main goal behind sending troops to Ukraine after eight years of fighting was to protect civilians in that country’s eastern region. “We are not the ones who started the military action, we are trying to end it,” he said.
He backed up his argument by saying that he sent troops to Ukraine to defend Russian-backed separatist areas in Ukraine that have fought Ukrainian forces in the conflict that erupted after Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014. “All our actions are aimed at helping the people living in the Donbass, it is our duty and we will continue to achieve this goal,” Putin said. It has strengthened its sovereignty. “Russia has responded to the economic, financial and technological attacks of the West,” he said.
“I believe we have lost nothing and we will not find anything,” he said. The most positive thing is that our sovereignty has been strengthened.” He added that Russia will continue to defend its sovereignty in the face of any attempt by the US and its allies to maintain its global hegemony.
