New Delhi. Vladimir Putin’s favorite synchronized swimmer has left the country to wave the Russian flag at the London 2012 Olympics. Anastasia Davydova, 39, five-time gold medalist and current Secretary General of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), has stunned the Kremlin by joining thousands at the border in response to Putin’s demilitarization order. His decision is being linked to Putin’s war in Ukraine, but he has not yet issued a statement on the move. Pro-Kremlin media outlets criticized the decision and attacked Tarak Davydova.
Similarly, a top Russian judge has left the country’s Constitutional Court. Because most sections of the country have abandoned their tyrannical president. The Daily Mail reports that Konstantin Aranovsky resigned at age 57, even though the official retirement age is 70, and the Constitutional Court will soon consider the legality of Putin’s impending annexation of Ukraine. Olga Brusnikina, vice-president of the Russian Federation of Synchronized Swimming, said “everyone was shocked” by Davydova’s sudden departure.
Davydova waved the Russian flag at the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics, where she also won gold. He won gold medals in Athens in 2004, Beijing in 2008 and is a 13-time world champion. Davydova was awarded the Order of Merit by Putin last year, and her decision to leave Russia is a major symbolic blow to the Kremlin leader. In 2019, he hosted the Synchronized Swimming Center of Russia, which is named after him.
His decision to oppose the war is yet another sign of Putin’s war on domestic unrest and his recent mobilization steps. The Deputy General Producer of the Match TV channel Vasily Konov announced Davydov’s exit. “Anastasia Davydova, a five-time Olympic champion in synchronized swimming, has left Russia,” she said.
