Polio virus found in New York City sewage
Health experts said – the disease is spreading secretly
Virus was not available for last 10 years
New York. The detection of poliovirus in the sewage of New York City is a sign that the disease is spreading silently among unvaccinated people. Health officials gave this information on Friday. It is noteworthy that this virus was not found in America for a decade. The city and New York state health departments said the presence of poliovirus in wastewater here indicates that the virus is likely to spread locally.
Provincial Health Commissioner Dr. Mary T. Bassett said the finding of poliovirus in wastewater samples in New York City is worrying but not surprising. “The threat to New Yorkers is real but it is easy to prevent – let’s talk about polio,” New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Ashwin Vasan said in a statement.
