Diesel price in Sri Lanka is still 430 Sri Lankan rupees per litre. Thus the prices of diesel are now higher than that of petrol. In the international market, the prices of crude oil have been declining for the last one month. Crude oil prices have fallen below $90 per barrel. However, Indian oil companies have not changed the prices of petrol and diesel for more than four months. In such a situation, the prices of petrol and diesel are stable across the country.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka is currently facing financial bankruptcy. Inflation has reached historic levels here. Inflation rose to 69.8 per cent in September from 64.3 per cent in August. If there is a reduction in diesel prices, then citizens are likely to get relief on inflation. However, the Sri Lankan government has given relief only on petrol prices.
