opinion | Housing: the bombshell of green regulations

« L'effet prévisible des différentes mesures votées est une restriction importante de l'accès au logement dans les prochaines années. »

The issue of purchasing power dominates public debate. Targeted aid can be a short-term response, but is not a lasting solution to this major problem for the French. Housing is the number one item of household expenditure; it absorbs on average 70% of their constrained expenses. It is surprising (or significant) that it is almost absent from the radar of the areas where a reduction in expenditure would be possible.

The inexorable rise of its weight in the French budget is the consequence of a shortage that we cannot stop: the need for new housing is estimated at 3.3 million by 2030. The problem will unfortunately get even worse: a new shock is brewing for housing in France, under the effect of the latest green regulations.
