1838 – Bahadur Shah Zafar became the last Mughal emperor

On this day, 28 September, the last emperor of the Mughal Empire, Bahadur Shah Zafar, became the emperor after the death of his father. After the British defeated the Marathas, he shifted his march towards Delhi and Bahadur Shah Zafar had to abdicate. But in the rebellion of 1857, the revolutionaries once again declared Bahadur Shah Zafar the emperor of Delhi and fought against the British. Later the British captured Delhi and sent Bahadur Shah Zafar to Rangoon, now Myanmar.

1929 – Birth of Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar

Lata Mangeshkar was born on 28 September 1929 in a middle class family in Indore. At the age of thirteen, Latadi started working in the music industry. Lata Mangeshkar left a different mark on Bollywood with her singing prowess. Lata Mangeshkar has sung more than thirty thousand songs in 20 languages. Lata Mangeshkar was awarded the highest honor ‘Bharat Ratna’ in 2001. Prior to this he has been honored with Padma Bhushan (1969), Padma Vibhushan (1999), Dadasaheb Phalke Award (1989).

2007- International Rabies Day celebrated

September 28 is celebrated as Rabies Day across the world. This day was first celebrated by an organization in England in 2007. This day is celebrated to create awareness among the people about Rabies. This day is celebrated on 28 September, the death anniversary of the father of vaccine, Louis Pasteur.

2012- Death of Brijesh Mishra

India’s first National Security Advisor Brajesh Mishra passed away today, September 28, 2012. He was the Chief Secretary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee when he was the Prime Minister. In 1999, he was instrumental in advising Prime Minister Vajpayee during the Kargil War. He was appointed as the country’s first security advisor.

2016: Shimon Peres, former Prime Minister of Israel, died

Former Prime Minister of Israel Shimon Perez passed away on September 28, 2016. The conflict between Israel and Palestine has been going on for years and continues to this day. But in 1993, Shimon Peres signed a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). For his work he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994.

2018 – Supreme Court’s decision to allow women of all ages to enter Sabarimala temple

Women in the age group of 10 to 50 years were banned from entering the Sabarimala Swamy Ayyappa temple in Kerala. Ayyappa Swamy, who is seated in the Sabarimala temple, is believed to be unmarried. The temple management had decided to deny entry to women of this age group because of their menstruation. A petition was filed against this in the Supreme Court. Hearing this petition, the Supreme Court lifted the ban and ruled that women of all ages should be allowed to enter the temple. But after this decision of the Supreme Court, there were protests in Kerala.
