New Tales From the Borderlands Release Date Leaked, Expected in October

According to the retail listing, new stories on the Borderlands release date have leaked. The latest story-driven title from Gearbox Software was listed on the Amazon US store, revealing an October 21st launch date and other key details. First spotted by Gamematsu, the pre-order listing was for the Deluxe Edition, which is packed with bonus items and cosmetics and is expected to launch on all major platforms — PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch , and Windows PC.

Like the original Borderlands stories — developed by Telltale Games — this new iteration will be highly narrative. The game will be divided into five distinct chapters, where choices determine the fate of the characters, as they take on the “ruthless corporate lords”. Set in the war-torn metropolis of Promethea, players take control of Anu, Octavi and Fran on the worst day of their lives and embark on an adventure to change the course of a dystopian world.

If Gearbox is trying to recreate the same effect as the original, we can expect a point-and-click style standalone adventure, where you choose dialogue options that influence the story. However, a now-deleted Amazon listing revealed an “Adventure Capital Pack,” which includes some in-game cosmetics for characters, 10,000 in-game currency, and a FL4K Vaultlander collectible. This implementation is a stark departure from what we’re used to from Telltale, which has focused on providing a great narrative experience on a one-time payment only. No separate versions or microtransactions.

At this point, it’s unclear whether the aptly-named New Tales from Borderlands picks up after the events of the first, which featured a major confrontation with antagonist Handsome Jack. However, the blurb notes that players can expect familiar faces throughout, as they hunt down Psycho and other Vault Hunters in the game. Details are sparse, but the overview says you’ll be thrown into a “planetary invasion” and face vicious vault monsters, assassin bots and talking guns in a cinematic thrill ride.

Gearbox announced a new game in the Tales from the Borderlands series in April, promising more information this summer. At the time, CEO Randy Pitchfork claimed that the title was due to launch in late 2022 – consistent with this leak.

New Tales from the Borderlands is expected to launch on October 21st on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Windows PC.
