National Treasure: Edge of History: Harvey Keitel Leads a New Generation of Treasure Hunters

The trailer of National Treasure: Edge of History is out recently. At the D23 Expo on Sunday, Disney unveiled the trailer for the sequel to the Nicolas Cage-led National Treasure films. The 10-episode first season follows Jess, a young Dreamer, who sets out on an adventure to uncover her family’s history. Marian Wibberley – known for writing the first two films – serves as executive producer for the sequel series, which Meera Nair (Salaam Bombay!) is directing. National Treasure: Edge of History releases with a two-episode premiere on December 14, exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar.

The trailer for National Treasure: Edge of History opens with the narration of a returning character, FBI agent Peter Sadusky. Harvey Keitel ( Reservoir Dogs ) reprises his role from the early films, although it has not been revealed whether he has retired from his role. “It indicates a very important treasure. I thought a million times about destroying it so it wouldn’t fall into the wrong hands,” he tells Jess Valenzuela (Lisette Oliveira) as he hands her the map. The trailer also touches on Valenzuela’s backstory, which includes the death of her father, a known thief.

Seeing a strange necklace hanging from her chest, Sandusky confirms that everything she knew about her father was a lie. The National Treasure: Age of History trailer makes it clear that the symbol on her necklace has something to do with an ancient relic, leading to numerous puzzles and, ultimately, an important treasure. Going up against Jess is Catherine Zeta-Jones (Titanic), who plays a billionaire entrepreneur and adventurer in search of treasure. The trailer also mentions “The Daughters of the Plume Serpent,” a reference to Quetzalcoatl, a cultural hero and deity from ancient Mexico.

The National Treasure: Age of History trailer then mixes in references to secret door unlocks, open gunfire, and ancient notes that will help solve the puzzle. It also teases a small Easter egg for the glasses of Benjamin Franklin Gates, – played by Cage in earlier films – who have now achieved in-universe celebrity status. The upcoming Disney series also stars Zuri Reid, Antonio Cipriano, Lyndon Smith (The Good Doctor), Justin Bartha (The Hangover Trilogy) and Breeda Wool (Mass).

National Treasure: Edge of History premieres with the first two episodes on December 14, exclusively on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar.
