Microsoft Outlook starts showing more ads on iOS and Android apps: Report

Microsoft is reportedly releasing more ads in the Outlook mobile app for iOS and Android. Outlook app provides users with two layout options to organize their inbox. Users can either set up a focused inbox with two categories – focused and others or a single inbox with all emails. Free subscribers of the Outlook app were getting ads in another category. Now, the tech giant is reportedly adding ads to single inbox mode as well.

according to a report good By The Verge, Microsoft has been showing more ads on Outlook Mobile over the past few months. The move prompts users to take advantage of a paid Microsoft 365 subscription.

The changes were reportedly confirmed by a Microsoft spokesperson. The report quotes Microsoft spokeswoman Caitlin Rolston as saying that “For free users of Outlook, ads are shown in their inbox and they can choose to enable the ‘Focused Inbox’ feature if they can only use ‘Other’. Want to see ads in inbox”.

Ads display at the top of the inbox and users can swipe to remove them, but they will eventually return. Users can avoid seeing them permanently by subscribing to Microsoft 365.

In India, the Microsoft 365 Personal plan is priced at Rs. 489 for one month, while the Microsoft 365 Family plan costs Rs. 619 per month. The company also offers a free 30-day trial for new customers.
