Maldivian environment minister attacked with a blade, several serious injuries to his mother, arrested for assault

Garland In the Maldivian capital Male, on Monday afternoon, youths attacked Environment Minister Ali Solih with a blade. During this his left hand got injured. The attacker was arrested soon after the violent incident. Solih is the Minister of State for Environment, Climate Change and Technology. He is also the spokesman for the Jumhuri Party (JP), a coalition partner of President Ibrahim Solih’s ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). Minister Solih was driving his scooty during the incident.

During this attack, the minister got his scooty on the road, due to which the minister had to stop his car. According to local media reports, the attacker read some verses from the Quran and then attacked Solih. Due to the sudden attack, Minister Solih did not even get a chance to defend himself. The video of this incident is going viral on social media. According to a report in The Times of Addu, Solih was attacked when he was riding his scooter on a road in Hulhumale. The attack targeted the minister’s neck. But the knife slipped and fell on his hand. This resulted in several serious injuries to the hand.

A youth present on the spot tried to intervene. Meanwhile, Minister Solih left his scooty and fled. On receiving the news of the attack on the minister, the police reached the spot and arrested the person involved in the attack. According to media reports in Maldives, the accused has been sent on 15-day police remand. The accused was produced in the Hulhumale magistrate’s court on Tuesday.
