Instagram has brought parental supervision tools and Family Center to India. Meta announced parental supervision tools and a Family Center tool in March 2022. The Family Center is a place for parents and guardians to access supervision tools and resources from leading experts. These tools will let them see the screen time their kids spend on Instagram and set time limits. The new parental controls are part of Meta’s promise to protect children who actively use social media apps.
Meta is to bring Parental monitoring tools and family centers in India. In March 2022, parental supervision tools and Family Center were launched by Meta on Instagram.
The American tech giant noted in a blog post that it has worked closely with experts, parents, guardians and teens to develop Family Center, which it describes as “a new place for parents to monitor their teen’s accounts, set up in Meta Technology. and use supervision tools and access resources on how to communicate with their teens about Internet use.”
At launch, the monitoring tools were only available in the US. Upon launch of this tool, teenagers will have to consent to parental supervision if requested by their parents or guardians.
Supervision is optional on Instagram and both parents and teens must agree to the terms to use the tool. A feature can be removed by anyone at any time. However, the other person will be notified if supervision is removed by either party.
The supervision feature allows parents to set time limits for Instagram use, choose scheduled breaks for Instagram use, view time spent on Instagram, note accounts that teens follow, and monitor accounts that teens follow. Teens will also get a preview of the details their parents or guardians are able to monitor.
