Hyderabad International Airport to launch DigiYatra platform for paperless travel from August 18

Tata Group in talks with Wistron to manufacture iPhone in India: Report

The Hyderabad International Airport will launch the DigiYatra platform for three months from August 18. In line with the DigiYatra program signed by the Government of India, GMR Hyderabad International Airport (GHIAL) will start digital processing of passengers through the DigiYatra platform as a proof of concept for three months from Thursday. Digiyatra will facilitate paperless travel and help in avoiding multiple identity checks at airports thereby making possible seamless and hassle-free travel.

With DigiYatra, passengers will be automatically processed based on a facial recognition system at select checkpoints: one at Departure Domestic Entrance 3 and the other at the Security Hold Area (SHA) in the Passenger Terminal Building.

Digiyatra technical team has developed a special mobile app for enrollment, which must be downloaded to avail the benefits offered by the Digiyatra programme. The app was launched by the Prime Minister of India on 15th August. The beta version of the DigiYatra app is currently available on the Google Play Store. The same app will be available on the App Store for iOS users in a few weeks.

Pradeep Panicker, CEO – GHIAL said, “The DigiYatra initiative envisages a fast, hassle-free, digitally integrated air travel experience for airline passengers across all stages of travel. This is a milestone in the history of Indian aviation. It is, and we are proud to have been selected by the Government of India as one of the airports for the proof of concept for Digi Travel.GHIAL had earlier launched the face recognition test, which has received wide acclaim in the airport ecosystem. This technology will enable passengers to travel paperless, and they will be able to use face scan as a boarding pass.”

Since the DigiYatra biometric boarding system is integrated with the identity document, passengers will no longer need to show their tickets or boarding passes and their physical identity cards at airport checkpoints. This will reduce queue wait times, speed up processing times and simplify procedures that enhance the passenger experience. DigiYatra enables passengers to access relevant information about various facilities, protocols, airline timings and queue wait times at the airport.

GMR Hyderabad International Airport is one of the five airports that have been selected to launch the DigiYatra programme. The Digiyatra team has formed a technical expert committee with all airports and airlines to work out the roadmap. DigiYatra mobile app is secure as the biometric details of the passenger are stored on the passenger’s mobile only and will not be shared with anyone. This is completely voluntary, and the normal non-biometric process will continue to function.

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) is a joint venture company by GMR Infra (63 percent) in partnership with Airports Authority of India (13 percent), Government of Telangana (13 percent) and Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad (11 percent). ,
