Huawei P50 Pocket New Variant Tipped to Come With Snapdragon 778G SoC, May Ditch Cover Display

The alleged poster of the Huawei P50 Pocket New has recently been leaked by a tipster, which includes some of its specifications. It is being speculated that Huawei is close to bringing a new, slightly cheaper, variant of the P50 pocket foldable smartphone to the market. The handset is christened ‘Huawei P50 Pocket New’ for now and could be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G SoC. This clamshell foldable handset with model number BAL-AL80 has also surfaced on the TENAA certification site. It is said to pack an upgraded battery with 4,260mAh-rated capacity.

In comparison, the P50 Pocket that was launched in December last year packs the Snapdragon 888 4G SoC. The leaked poster reportedly indicates that this new variant will not sport a cover display.

The P50 Pocket New is tipped to come in 256GB and 512GB of onboard storage configurations, which will cost CNY 4,999 (approximately Rs 60,000) and CNY 6,999 (approximately Rs 80,000) in China at launch. These prices are significantly lower than the launch prices of the previous P50 Pocket – CNY 8,988 (approximately Rs 1,05,000) for the 256GB model and CNY 10,988 (approximately Rs 1,25,000) for the 512GB variant.

The leaked poster also reveals that the P50 Pocket New will come in Crystal White and Obsidian Black colours. It is said to have XMAGE ultra-wide image sensor. It appears that the foldable smartphone will come with a 120Hz OLED screen. It can run on HarmonyOS 3.

This new clamshell foldable smartphone from Huawei has also been listed On the TENAA certification site. The model number of the listed smartphone is BAL-AL80. The detailed specifications of this handset have not been revealed from the listing. However, it is said to house a 4,260mAh battery, which is a bump of 260mAh from the battery capacity of the P50 Pocket.
