Tokyo: Indian Para athletes continue their best performance in Tokyo Paralympics 2020. Archer Harvinder Singh on Friday (September 3) won India a bronze medal in the men’s individual recurve event. Harvinder has Korean M.S. beat Kim.

Harvinder of Haryana won the bronze medal by defeating Kim 6-5 in a thrilling contest. This is India’s third medal today and 13th overall at the Tokyo Paralympic Games. Harvinder became the first Indian archer to win a medal in Paralympics. Earlier in the semi-finals, Harvinder was defeated by American archer K Mather 4-6.

In the bronze medal match, Harvinder won the first set 26-24, but the Korean came back to win the second set 29-27. Harvinder could score 28 points in the third set, while Kim could only score 25 points. Harvinder took a 4-2 lead and needed a win in the next round to win a medal, but in the fourth set both the archers scored 25-25 points each.

Harvinder scored 26 points in the fifth set, but Kim took one more point to take the match into a shoot-off. In the shoot-off, Kim scored eight and Harvinder scored 10. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Harvinder for winning this historic medal.

Silver medal to Praveen in high jump T-64 categoryC
Earlier this morning Praveen Kumar won a silver medal in the high jump T-64 event. Praveen broke the Asian record with a jump of 2.07m and finished second and won India a silver medal. Praveen failed to cover a distance of 2.07 meters in his first attempt. But in the second attempt he did it easily.

After Praveen Kumar, 19-year-old Indian shooter Avani Lekhara finished third in the women’s 50m rifle three position SH1 with 445.9 points. This is Avani’s second medal in the same Paralympics. Earlier he had won gold medal in 10m rifle. This was India’s 12th medal.
