Bangkok. India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday visited a Hindu temple located here and underlined the shared religious and cultural traditions of India and Thailand and inaugurated the residence of the Indian Embassy there. Jaishankar arrived here on Tuesday to attend the ninth meeting of the India-Thailand Joint Commission.
Jaishankar tweeted, ‘Worshipped at a temple in Bangkok on Sunday morning. Fra Maharajguru took the blessings of the method. It underlies our religious and cultural traditions.

Hinduism seen in Thailand
The temple is located near Wat Suthat in the Phra Nakhon district of Bangkok, the ‘Royal Brahmin Office’ of the Thai Royal Court. This temple is the official center of Hinduism in Thailand. Maharajaguru Vidhi is the head of the Thai Brahmin community.
Temple is the abode of Brahmin
The temple is the abode of the ‘Nyalaya Brahmins’, who are the descendants of the priests of Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu. These Brahmins perform many important royal and religious rituals and ceremonies for the royal family of Thailand every year.
Similarities between history and culture
Jaishankar on Wednesday visited the Emerald Buddha Temple, Thailand’s holiest Buddhist temple, and saw a magnificent Ramayana mural in which he said, “Our contemporary partnership with Thailand is largely based on history and culture.”

Later, Jaishankar along with his Thai counterpart Don Pramudwinai inaugurated the Indian Embassy residence in Bangkok.
