The “Solidarités femmes” house in Montgeron (Essonne) has just opened its doors, in a vast 400 square meter residence. It welcomes women victims of domestic violence as well as their children by offering emergency accommodation and support services. This can be, for example, care, but also legal services, such as consulting a lawyer.

The Maison de Montgeron has six places, theoretically reserved for overnight stays, the time to find a more permanent solution. Around twenty professionals (psychological social workers, etc.) work for the Léa Solidarité Femmes association, which carries out the project.

Receive women in emergency

“We specialize in welcoming victims of domestic and intra-family violence. Our structures make it possible to receive women and children in emergency seven days a week. This allows women leaving their homes in a hurry to avoid sleeping in a car, a train station or a hospital,” underlines Patricia Rouff, director and founder of the association. Léa Solidarité Femmes is part of the national Solidarité femmes network, which brings together 78 specialized associations throughout France.

The Montgeron house is the first of its kind opened by the Solidarité Femmes network in France. Another house will soon be inaugurated in Ile-de-France, in Charenton in the Val-de-Marne. In addition to emergency care, the house brings together all the services of the Léa Solidarité Femmes association. The latter was previously a tenant in Montgeron of a 130 square meter room.

1,600 women supported each year

The purchase of the house, whose budget has not been communicated, was partly financed by public partners (Ile de France region, regional health agency, etc.) and by private patrons. “The project is part of the mobilization that followed the 2019 Grenelle on the subject. Progress is being made, but we must not give up. Much remains to be done to resolve the issue of domestic violence,” insists Fabienne Rouff. The association accompanies 1,600 women each year. Victims can contact the association directly or are addressed by the gendarmerie, police, elected officials, neighbors, etc.
