Elon Musk Subpoenas Twitter Whistleblower; Seeks Information on Bots, Security

According to a recent court filing, Elon Musk has summoned a Twitter whistleblower in his ongoing legal battle with the social media platform to terminate a $44 billion (about Rs 3,51,300) buyout agreement. The chief of SpaceX and Tesla has sought documentation and information about alleged security vulnerabilities on Twitter’s spam accounts and microblogging site. This is Musk’s latest move, following his efforts to obtain communications on the bots from other Twitter-related executives, including chief and former CEO Jack Dorsey.

The billionaire has summoned whistleblower Peter Zatko, who recently made shocking allegations on Twitter, according to a court filing reported by Reuters on Monday. Zatko, Twitter’s former head of security, will be asked how the microblogging site measures spam accounts.

Musk is seeking documents to reveal Twitter’s alleged attempts to hide security vulnerabilities and comply with a 2011 Federal Trade Commission agreement. As per the billionaire’s claims, he was misled about the exact number of spam or bot accounts on the social media platform.

Twitter and Musk have been engaged in a legal battle ever since the billionaire announced his move away from the deal. Twitter sued after Musk’s announcement, followed by his countersuit against the microblogging site.

Both sides are going for a five-day trial starting October 17. Musk wants to exit the deal, with Twitter urging a court to order the billionaire to buy the company for an agreed amount.
